Origin: A cultivated variety of Adenium arabicum, native to the arid regions of the Arabian Peninsula and northeastern Africa, adapted to dry, rocky deserts with intense sunlight and minimal seasonal rainfall.Growth: Develops a massive, swollen fleshy caudex (up to 12 inches/30cm diameter) with rough, gray-brown bark that forms deep cracks with age. Stout, branching stems grow 18-24 inches/45-60cm tall, bearing large, glossy green leathery leaves (4-6 inches/10-15cm long) clustered at stem tips.Flowers: Blooms in spring to summer (and occasionally autumn), producing showy, trumpet-shaped flowers (3-4 inches/7.5-10cm wide) in vibrant shades of pink, red, or bicolor. Flowers cover the plant when in full bloom, creating a striking contrast with its thick caudex and green foliage.Care Guide
Light: Thrives in full intense sunlight (6-8 hours daily) to promote caudex growth and abundant flowering. Requires unobstructed sun; indoor plants need a south-facing window with direct light for optimal blooms.Watering: Water thoroughly during active growth (spring-summer)—let soil dry completely between waterings. Reduce to rare watering in winter (semi-dormancy); overwatering causes fatal caudex rot, especially in cool temperatures.Soil & Potting: Use ultra-well-draining mix of cactus soil + perlite + coarse sand + crushed granite (3:2:2:1 ratio). Choose a wide, shallow pot to showcase the caudex; plant with 1/2 of the caudex exposed above soil.Hardiness: USDA zones 10-11.
