Product Description
- Origin: Native to the arid Namaqualand region of South Africa and southwestern Namibia, adapted to hot, dry climates with seasonal rainfall.
- Growth: Grows from a small bulb, producing clumps of narrow, fleshy leaves that curl tightly in a spiral pattern. Reaches 6-12 inches (15-30cm) tall/wide; leaves elongate and curl more with adequate light.
- Flowers: Blooms in late winter to spring, sending up slender stalks with clusters of fragrant, pale yellow-green flowers (often with green stripes). Flowers open in sunlight and close in shade.
- Light: Requires bright direct to indirect light (4-5 hours daily). Full sun enhances leaf curl; insufficient light causes leaves to become straggly.
- Watering: Water moderately during active growth (spring-summer)—let soil dry halfway between waterings. Reduce watering in winter (bulb dormancy); avoid overwatering to prevent bulb rot.
- Soil & Potting: Use well-draining cactus/succulent mix + perlite (2:1 ratio). Plant bulb with the top third exposed; choose a shallow pot to accommodate clumping growth.
- Hardiness: USDA zones 9-11. Tolerates brief cool temps down to 32°F (0°C); keep indoors or protect from frost in colder climates.
